Windows XP users can purchase a cheaper "upgrade" version of Windows 7.

Windows XP users have to do a fresh installation of Windows 7.

Upgrading from Vista to Windows 7
Vista users get a direct upgrade path to Windows 7 so your files and application will migrate with Windows 7.

The upgrading for Windows 7 are limited by version of Windows Vista as following:
  • Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional
  • Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate
Upgrade Installation:
  • The base language match with the target Windows 7 language.
  • Require 9GB of free space for installation and the installation can only occur on the same partition that holds Windows Vista.
Clean Installation:
Require 16GB of free space for installation.
